WaveEditor USB Microphone Support

**UPDATE** WaveEditor version 1.93 now re-adds support for USB recording previously lost after Android Oreo. It also features new improvements to the USB driver itself, including device preferred sample rate, better buffer management, and support for mics that have built-in audio outputs.

WaveEditor for Android™ version 1.0.24 will now support USB audio input. This feature is still in the R&D phase, but should work on most supported phones when used with class compliant audio devices. USB audio output is not currently supported. Recording format will vary between devices; The mic’s default configuration is used with a preferred 44.1kHz sample rate.

*Note: If playback does not work when USB mic is connected, you must disable USB audio routing. This can be done by enabling the option “Prevent USB audio routing” in the Developer Options of your device’s settings app. Restart the device after enabling this option.

Any testers who can provide insight of their device compatibility, please add a comment below.

  1. My phone is otg supported, KitKat 4.4.2, CPU 1.3 ghz quadcore mediatake MT6582, RAM 1gb, kernel version 3.4.67 and internal memory is 8gb.
Do it will support usb audio or usb mic?

  2. Hi there I just stumbled on this app and hope it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. I currently have it downloaded on my Google pixel XL and I’m about to test my blue snowball and yeti using the “otg” adapter that the pixel came with. What settings do you guys suggest to get optimal results from these microphones?

  3. Nice work guys. I have tested recording via USB with Zoom H5 recorder, phone is Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon 625, Android 7). Successfully captured mono track from stereo mic (not sure if one of L/R or sum of them), instrument inputs were ignored. Playback was routed through H5 output.

    1. Hi michal,

Is there any settings you need to do on the Redmi Note 4 to get the H5 to work (eg USB settings inside Developer’s Options)? I tried both Zoom H2 and Audio Technica ATR2500 USB and only the playback was working. The recording function is frozen. My android version is 7.0 NRD90M. MIUI Global 9.5.9.0 (NCFMIFA).

      1. Looks like it has something to do with Google Assistant. When I disable the permission for Google Assistant, then I am able to get the microphone working using the System USB. I am still not able to get it anything working using the WavStudio USB Input on the Redmi Note 4.

      1. Hello Isi, sorry for a really late answer. I’m not sure what I’ve used that time, but now I’m using system USB driver, WaveEditor Input USB driver is not working for me.

  4. Hi,

I nearly fell off my chair when this recognised my Samson Go Mic and then actually recorded some test audio without crashing like all the other apps that claim to be able to do this, but can’t really. Thanks! 🙂

For anyone else trying this for the same purpose, remember to unplug your mic to playback the recording – the OTG connection mutes your phone otherwise. I suppose it’s interpreting the mic as a USB speaker maybe?

    1. Hi Rob thanks for your feedback bro it helped me choose my Mic also the good tip … how is it working for you now?

  5. Really nice work guys. Plugged in to a Yamaha MG16XU mixer and worked flawless for the entire church service.
Just a feature request would be to add a pause recording button.
    Thanks
    Josh.

  6. On Asus Padfone running Android 5, I am able to get the Audio Technica ATR2500-USB working. On the recording screen, however, only the microphone works and I am not able to hear the preview audio. On the edit screen, I can get both input and output to work and they work perfectly with the overdub function.

On Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon 625) recently updated to Android 7, however, the microphone does not work at all. Anything to do with the microphone completely freezes. The microphone does not work with other apps also, so I guess it might have something to do with the USB drivers on Android 7.

    1. Looks like it has to do with the microphone permission for Google Assistant. Denying Google the microphone permission allows the microphone to work using the System USB. The WavStudio USB Input still does not work.

      1. After some trying, it looks like WavStudio USB Input driver does not work on my Redmi Note 4 (Android 7). I am not able to start recording at all. I can however get the System USB driver to work without much problem after denying microphone permission for Google at the expense of the phone responding to “OK, Google”.

On Asus Padphone running Android 5, both drivers appears to work fine. Google Assistant is not installed in for the phone in this case.

Microphones tested : Zoom H2, Audio Technica ATR2500-USB.

  7. Tested successfully with Behringer Q1202USB Mixer to both Samsung Galaxy Note 3 & Samsung Galaxy SM-T550 Tablet using a USB to micro USB OTG cable.

I wish the default save format could be changed from WAV to mp3 to save storage space.

      1. Salve, quest’app è veramente bella e ben fatta a mio parere, ho utilizzato per lungo tempo cool edit , poi diventato Adobe audition e quest’ app mi ricorda molto quest’ultimo programma che ho citato ;
        La mia domanda è,
Sbloccando la versione completa , il fatto che con la versione gratuita appena aggiungi più tracce salta e nn riproduce bene la musica , sarà sempre la stessa cosa o il problema nn si presenta più?
        Grazie in anticipo
        Ekans

  8. The new mp3 record feature works great. Thanks so much!!!

I have also tested the iSK UC200 USB audio interface successfully with Samsung Galaxy A8 Star (USB-C) & Note 3 Smart Phones and with Samsung Galaxy SM-T550 Tablet.

One more feature request to make this the ultimate would be to record to SD card. At the moment the app is only allowing me to write to the internal storage.

  9. I have now successfully tested the Blue Yeti USB Mic.

However I can’t get my Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD audio interface to work. It’s strange because my Behringer Q1202USB Mixer works fine. It recognises that the UMC204HD is connected but the record button is unresponsive. I pull it out and swap with another interface and the record button becomes responsive. I get the same result on my Galaxy A8 Star and Note 3.

As a reference the UMC204HD works with Audio Evolution Demo version (I much prefer WaveEditor).

  10. When I try to start the recording, there is a window that ask if I want to let this USB-Device the Standart. When I mark “Yes” and “Ok”, the window Comes again and again.

Sometimes my USB-Mikro (Renkforce CU4) will do the record, sometimes the Micro in the Tablet (Yoga 10)

How can I fix the USB-Device?

  11. Hello, succesfully tested stereo recording on Zoom H5 recorder with Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon 625, Android 7). Both stereo mic or 2 instument inputs (H5 was in stereo mode) were working (with system USB driver – WaveEditor Input USB driver is not working for me). I could also record in stereo from line-in with no issues. Thank you for great work.

P.S.: Oh, and if I could, I would also vote for the ‘pause record button’ as a wished feature. But I’m happy already.

  12. I have tried the app on two Android devices:

    (1) Lenovo tablet TAB 2 A10-70F (manufactured 2015) running Android 6.0. The App runs using the tablet’s built-in mic. When I attach an OTG cable and connect my Tascam US-16×08 interface, the app does not know that the interface is connected and continues to use the tablet’s built-in mic.

    (2) Moto G6 phone (manufactured summer 2018) running Android 8.0.0.

The App runs using the phone’s built-in mic.

When I connect an OTG cable and connect my Tascam US-16x-08 interface, the app immediately requests permission to access the device.

However, when choosing the USB Microphone Driver, if I chose the “WaveEditor USB Input”, the app will not record.

If I choose the “System USB Audio”, the app will record.

Regardless of whether or not I set the app to record in stereo, the resulting recording is in mono. (Even if I only attach one mic to my Tascam interface, that mic is fed equally to both left & right channels.)

(For comparison, the app called USB Audio Recorder Pro works very well recording in stereo (or multi-track) and playing back in stereo with the Tascam interface connected to the same Moto G6 phone. USB Audio Recorder Pro did not work with my Lenovo tablet a few years ago, when the tablet was running Android 4.4 or 4.5. I have not had a chance to test it yet now that the tablet is running Android 6.0)

  13. I tested this on Blue Yeti microphone…It pickup the recording…But when i use in in playback mode to record a song…the sound plays from my Smartphone speaker…Btw i plugged in my headphone on the Blue Yeti audio jack. Can anyone help me how to figure this out? Do i have to plug in other headphones into my phone audio jack to listen to playback?

  14. Hello, I have a small problem, I bought the paid version, but still can not record with the iRig Mic Studio on it, it is connecting and disconnecting, I am using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, have any incompatibility with it? Thank you

  15. I have a problem after the latest version update, I can’t record using USB Microphones after it just crashes and the application exits itself, my Android version is still using 4.0?

  16. Hallo, I tried to record something with the zoom h4n with the audio i/o function, but it did not work. I tried various values included mono, and disable audio rooting without any effort. Do you have experiences with the h4n?

  17. Hi there,

Audio Technica AT2020USB+ works just fine with your app. Recording and playback goes with no trouble. I realy like edit mode. Clean and simple. Is there a way to incorporate level meter in recording mode? Thanks!

  18. While testing a standard electret microphone, I was trying to interconnect Wave Editor App v1.88 with an audio DAQ card (type PCM2912). I selected the USB pilot option to WaveEditor USB input. When activating the record funcrion, with the microphone connected to the card, I get the message to authorize the application to access CODEC. After, selecting OK, I access the recording screen but cannot start recording.
To be noted that the playback works and I can hear the audio with headset connected to the USB card.
Also when I use the same set-up with Oscope the recording works fine.
Is there anyway and trick to fix the issue?

  19. Just placed this app in my Stylos 5. Changed features to both mic setups with no success. Im using a Insignia Usb Recording Mic which is a plug and play. I once receive a message to Allow USB Usage. This phone does have a mic blocker for the SYSTEM MIC but i dont believe that effects the USB usage ?!
Im seeing lot of thinga on disabling the Google Ast. Which i’ll try ?! Yet requiring hwlp from someone in the know about getting this up and running. Thanks !

  20. I am currently trying the Zoom Am7 microphone on Galaxy Tab6 8Go. Android 12 up to date.
I have a hard time knowing if it’s the Zoom Am7 that picks up the sound or if it’s the integrated microphone… the settings are quite complicated and contradictory… the French translation of the interface n is not perfect…
Once I got a message confirming support for this Zoom mic. But I don’t remember my settings…
I would like to know if there are other people who have tried this Zoom Am7 microphone?…
I see that you are not answering the questions… it’s a shame!
Thank you in any case for this app which seems to be super interesting!
Ceci est une traduction Google, je suis français…
